Speech audiometry I:

Signal source 1

  • Select the signal to be presented to the test ear.
  • Audiometer setting right is the right ear, setting left is the left ear, and setting both sides is the right ear.

Signal source 2

  • Select the signal to be presented to the non-test ear.
  • Audiometer setting right is the left ear, setting left is the right ear, and setting both sides is the right ear.

Start media player on external signals

  • When Extern 1 or Extern 2 is enabled, click the <Go> button to start the windows media player.

Transducer

You may select different transducers for <AC> (air conduction) and <FF> (free field.):

  • For air conduction (AC): headphones (DT 48), open Headphones (K1000), insert phones or free field loudspeaker. Default setting is headphones (DT48)
  • For free field (FF): loudspeaker, or open headphones (K1000). Default is loudspeaker.

Sentences

  • Select a male or female speaker to present the sentence test.

While measuring, don't show words

  • Disable feature so that columns of words are not displayed during a measurement

Repeats

  • Enable repeating the words to perform special tests (e.g. the Doering test).
  • 1 repeat means that a word is repeated twice.
  • Default is no repeat.

Break between words

  • Insert pauses between the repeats to avoid the repeats following one after another. Recommend a pause of 500 ms.
  • Default is no pause.

Break at start

  • The break delays the start of the first speech signal of a group.
  • The noise signal is enabled using the <Go> button and the first speech signal begins following the pause.
  • Recommend a pause of 100 ms.
  • Default is no pause.

Groups

  • In the Freiburg test, it is possible to disable speech unagreeable groups in the number and word test.
  • These word groups are no longer displayed in the selection list.
  • By clicking on the entry with the mouse, the group is either enabled (blue highlighted) or disabled (not highlighted).

Signal Source 1 and 2:

Speech audiometry II:

Measuring ucl

  • Using numbers: numbers are preselected.
  • Using words: words are preselected.
  • May select a user-defined number or word group in the audiometry. This is only a preselection when selecting the <UCL> button.

Measuring mcl

  • Using numbers: numbers are preselected.
  • Using words: words are preselected.
  • May select a user-defined number or word group in the audiometry. This is only a preselection when selecting the <MCL> button.

Maximal level

  • It is possible to adjust the maximum level for the different transducers.
  • It ensures the adjusted level cannot exceed the maximum level.

Talk back

  • Test ear on: the microphone signal is presented to the test ear.
  • Non-test ear on: the microphone signal is presented to the non-test ear.
  • Starting level: this is the level that is preselected the microphone is enabled for the first time. May change the level user-defined in the software.
  • Default is: test ear on, non-test ear on, and starting level 65 dB.

Handling

  • Only mouse: the preset commands of the keyboard have no effect. All functions must be performed using a mouse.
  • Only keyboard: the audiometer can be controlled using the keyboard. All keyboard commands are enabled.
  • Mouse and keyboard: A combination of using both mouse and keyboard. Commands are performed using either the keyboard and/or mouse.

Counting

  • Counting 5% or 10%: every counting command (using mouse or keyboard) is rated with 5% or 10%.
  • Grossing up: the number of the words understood are calculated in relation to the words already presented. Recommended if abbreviated word groups are presented.

Examples:

  • Example 1: a number was presented and evaluated as understood = 100%, because 1 of 1 word was understood.
  • Example 2: a number was presented and evaluated as not understood = 50%, because 1 of 2 words was understood.

Pause key

  • The option: repeat word when pause is ended allows for the last word to be repeated again (pause key is disabled).
  • If this option is disabled, the next word will be presented and the last word is not repeated.

Keyboard interruptions

  • Select whether or not an interruption of the signal should occur and how it will be performed.

Function of the interrupter:

The ACAM System has a software interrupter, which can be enabled using three different keys:

Affects both channels (test ear and non-test ear)

Affects the test ear

Affects the non-test ear

Choose from three different options:

Switch off by held down key

  • Switches the signal off as long as the key is held down.
  • The signal is always switched on but may be interrupted using the key.

Switch on by held down key

  • The signal is always switched off and switched on when the key is pressed.

Key is not regarded

  • The key function is disabled and the signal is always switched on.
  • Pressing the key does not show any effect.

The interrupter functionality is also active when the operation with a mouse is selected.
