The setup of the tone audiometry is divided into three tabs:
General |
Basic, overall operation and display. |
Signals and transducers |
Select the signals and transducers for the individual measurements. |
Adjustments |
Adjustments to automatic frequency changing, modulations, keyboard operations and interrupter types can be made separately for the different measurement. |
To close the dialog you may choose between the following options:
Click <cancel> |
Changes in settings are not applied. The audiometer keeps the same adjustments as it had at the start of the setup.
|
Click <apply> |
Changes in settings are applied. The audiometer runs now with the changed parameters.
|
Click X on the upper right corner |
A message prompt appears with the option to either apply or not apply the changes. The message prompt opens up in a new window and states Take over the data? Click on yes to apply the changes. Click on no to discard the changes.
|
General Tab:
Step width: |
Determines how much the level changes per click. The default is 5 dB and the range is from 1 dB – 10 dB. |
Microphone level: |
Determines the starting level for the talk back microphone. Once activated the level goes to the adjusted value. |
Show cross hearing threshold: |
Creates a warning in the ACAM System footer and shows at which level cross hearing may occur and the necessary masking level. |
Show HL to SPL line: |
This option shows/hides the line indicating the difference of dB HL to dB SPL. Indication field: indicates when a hearing aid fitting is necessary according to health insurance. |
Show letters: |
Shows/hides the frequency division of the characters in our alphabet. |
Show speech banana: |
Shows/hides the speech banana. |
Show measuring limits: |
Shows/hides the measuring limits of the audiometer for each transducer. |
Maximum level: |
Can adjust individual maximum values for each transducer to not be exceeded during audiometric measurements. This adjustment protects the listener from sounds that are too loud. Therefore this limit should enabled. |
Figure 128: ACAM audiometer basic screen with measuring limit and an adjustable maximum level.
When the option Pressing Ctrl allows more is activated, the limit can be exceeded as long as the CTRL key is pressed down. Once the key is released, the audiometer goes back to the adjusted maximum value.
Amplitude modulation:
Determines a continuous level fluctuation for the signal on the non-test/test ear. For all signal types, an additional amplitude modulation may be enabled separately for the test ear and the non-test ear.
Frequency modulation:
When warble tone signals are enabled, the modulation frequency and frequency deviation can be changed. Warble tones are commonly used for pediatric audiometry (lower modulation frequency) or in free field (higher modulation frequency).
Signals and Transducer Tab:
Determine the signal types for the individual measurements and select the transducer for the individual measurements.
Setup Tab:
The upper section of the window displays buttons that allow the user to determine which measurement to change.

Detail of buttons:
|
<ac>: air conduction threshold |
|
<bc>: bone conduction threshold |
|
<fsf>: free field |
|
<uc>: uncomfortable level |
|
<tin>: tinnitus |
|
<mcl>: Most Comfortable Level |
Operation methods:
Keyboard:
Mouse:
Mouse and Keyboard:
Start Level not higher than:
Operation using Keyboard:
These settings are only enabled when "Only keyboard" is selected in operation.
Change frequency when value is saved:
When the value is confirmed with Enter, the cursor jumps automatically to the next frequency.
When changing frequency by key start with 0 dB:
When you change the frequency using the keyboard, the cursor jumps to 0 dB in the case that no measured value exists or the option for "-30 dB SL by existing threshold value" is disabled.
Measurement starts at 0 dB:
When the measurement is turned on and off using the keyboard, the measuring cursor is automatically set to 0 dB. This is the case when there is no measured value or the option for "-30 dB" SL by existing threshold value" is disabled.
If threshold value exists start at -10 dB SL (US -30 dB):
The ACAM System measurements starts at -10 dB from the existing measured values (no checkmark), 10 dB lower than the SL (sensation level) or 30 dB lower than the uncomfortable level.
Masking:
Control by hand |
Automatic is turned off. Adjust the masking manually by using the keyboard, the up and down keys or using the scroll wheel of the mouse. |
Masking off |
Masking is turned off. |
Automatic check |
Masking starts automatically when the threshold levels are reached without displaying a message. |
With preselected level |
Noise is presented at the same time with a fixed difference to the non-test ear. This difference may be adjusted. |
Further options for automatic tests with masking:
Cross hearing threshold LL:
Enter the value relating to the transcranial transmission loss of the used headphones. The default value for the headphone DT-48 is 50 dB.
Cross hearing threshold KL:
Enter the value relating to the transcranial transmission loss of the used bone conductor. The default value for the bone conductor is 0 dB.
dB (sl) surcharge:
This value determines at which level above the measured value the masking starts on the non-test ear. If a value of 0 dB is entered, the masking noise begins with the threshold of the non-test ear. If the value is 10 dB, the masking noise begins with a value 10 dB above the threshold of the non-test ear.
Presentation (Hardware Interrupter)
Enter the adjustments for the hardware interrupter of the ACAM System.
Mute after changing:
Select to enable the interrupter is automatically, change the frequency and turn the signal off for a short duration.
Interrupter inverse:
Select to have the signal inaudible until the interrupter is activated.
Pulsating measured ear:
Presents the pulsed signal to the test ear.
Pulsating opposite ear:
Presents the pulsed signal to the non-test ear.
Interrupter alternating:
If the pulse tone is enabled (on both ears), the sides are alternated between switched on and off.
Interrupter rate:
Select how frequently the signal should be interrupted (Default: 2 Hz; i.e. twice per second).
Function of the interrupter:
The ACAM System has a software interrupter, which can be enabled using three different keys:
|
Affects both channels (test ear and non-test ear) |
|
Affects the test ear |
|
Affects the non-test ear |
Choose from three different options:
Switch off by held down key |
|
Switch on by held down key |
|
Key is not regarded |
|
The interrupter functionality is also active when the operation with a mouse is selected.
